Why I felt the need
In India the cities are celebrating the prosperity which is coming with the growth of Indian economy and well deservedly so … but there is the other side of India which is living in sub human condition , where the children play in the squalor of the waste garbage dump yards and squeal with delight when they find a broken plastic wheel to play with . this is the reality of the urban slums and the children who grow up there facing physical , emotional and mental abuse on a daily basis . after witnessing this from the air-conditioned confines of my car I finally could bear it no longer.
Am I human enough if I can be a mute spectator to this . can I justify my education , comfortable upbringing and personal success if all I have done is collect material wealth while few kilometers away little children walk without shoes in the 40 degrees sun ,and lacs of children do not live to see their first birthday because they do not have enough milk and food to survive
A time had come for me to introspect , what do I call success , is it all about material wealth , fame fortune or is it about making a small but significant difference to the environment I am born in . I realized all I would think is that the poor were some one else’s problem and maybe it was the sole responsibility of the Government to do so , and maybe once I have paid my taxes I have done my job…
I found a group of like minded people
As the discomfort within me grew , I began talking to the close people around me , and to my amazement I realized that they all were serious about doing something for such children . We all finally decided that we wanted to do some thing systematic , sustainable and long term for the underprivileged children .We identified health , nutrition and education as our core focus areas
Divyashakti foundation was created by the following Mr. Anuj Parti , Capt. A.V Bahl , Mrs Asha Kaushal ,Mr Anil jain ,Mr Dhruv Mehra ,Dr Savita Datta , Mrs Parul Mehra , Mrs Raj Sharma and myself .
